Day One of Operation NO NAP: Failure

Abigail finished napping around two years old. She has a quiet time each day, but only naps a few times a year. When she does nap, she's up until 11:00 or later. Henry loves his naps. Often he asks me for them (um, yeah...he's definitely my child). Lately though, he takes a big nap and then is up until late (10:30 or later). Then, the next day he's tired from being up late, wants a nap, stays up late, etc. It's a terrible, terrible cycle. Colin can't stand the fact that Henry is up late. It's due to the fact that he's not a night person and also that he is home most nights to put him to bed. I can't blame him at all. So, Colin asked me if we (I) could try to NOT give Henry a nap...in hopes that he'll go to bed earlier.

Today was day one. Abby was at school. I let Henry watch a movie in his room on Abigail's portable dvd player/tv. He came out of his room at least 50 times. Ugh. So much for MY quiet time. We went to pick up Abigail from school and he fell asleep in the car, but only for about 5 minutes. We went to the mall...all was good until about 6:30 when he got really tired...really, really tired. The ride home was okay, but he fell apart at home. Screamed and cried for a while. Then fell asleep, mostly due to exhaustion. He has been crying again for the past 15 minutes...woke up hysterical...maybe a bad dream? I'm not sure.

I'm exhausted (no nap for Henry=no nap for me). I miss my quiet time. But...it is nice to have both kids sound asleep by 8:30 (let's forget for a minute the 15 minutes of hysterical crying).

I was all ready to watch my two favorite shows, "Without a Trace" and "Law and Order: SVU," but instead the debates are on. They are definitely interesting too. I feel like I know someone there. Todd, wife of Angie, who's blog I love is there tonight. No, I really don't know him, but his family is amazing, his wife is amazing and their story is inspiring. He's in the front row...cool for him!

Before I go...prayers for both Huizenga Families who lost a Grandpa today...it is so, so hard. He sounds like he was an amazing man who is probably having a blast in Heaven. Hugs to you all!

Thanks Bethany! You are very kind!

Good luck with the nap thing. Poor little buddy! (and poor mommy too!) I wonder if you skipped a nap for one day, then maybe would he nap earlier the next... then possibly an earlier bed time????

I feel your pain on the nap thing - we are now nap free. We pretty much quite cold turkey about a month ago when Baylee wouldn't go to sleep at night after a good nap earlier in the day. Now she sleeps a full 12 hours at night - it is wonderful! But the last hour or two before bedtime can be trying on us because she is exhausted and cranky. That just makes bedtime all the more sweet once it gets here! Hang in there!
