Day One of Operation NO NAP: Failure

Abigail finished napping around two years old. She has a quiet time each day, but only naps a few times a year. When she does nap, she's up until 11:00 or later. Henry loves his naps. Often he asks me for them (um, yeah...he's definitely my child). Lately though, he takes a big nap and then is up until late (10:30 or later). Then, the next day he's tired from being up late, wants a nap, stays up late, etc. It's a terrible, terrible cycle. Colin can't stand the fact that Henry is up late. It's due to the fact that he's not a night person and also that he is home most nights to put him to bed. I can't blame him at all. So, Colin asked me if we (I) could try to NOT give Henry a nap...in hopes that he'll go to bed earlier.

Today was day one. Abby was at school. I let Henry watch a movie in his room on Abigail's portable dvd player/tv. He came out of his room at least 50 times. Ugh. So much for MY quiet time. We went to pick up Abigail from school and he fell asleep in the car, but only for about 5 minutes. We went to the mall...all was good until about 6:30 when he got really tired...really, really tired. The ride home was okay, but he fell apart at home. Screamed and cried for a while. Then fell asleep, mostly due to exhaustion. He has been crying again for the past 15 minutes...woke up hysterical...maybe a bad dream? I'm not sure.

I'm exhausted (no nap for Henry=no nap for me). I miss my quiet time. But...it is nice to have both kids sound asleep by 8:30 (let's forget for a minute the 15 minutes of hysterical crying).

I was all ready to watch my two favorite shows, "Without a Trace" and "Law and Order: SVU," but instead the debates are on. They are definitely interesting too. I feel like I know someone there. Todd, wife of Angie, who's blog I love is there tonight. No, I really don't know him, but his family is amazing, his wife is amazing and their story is inspiring. He's in the front row...cool for him!

Before I go...prayers for both Huizenga Families who lost a Grandpa today...it is so, so hard. He sounds like he was an amazing man who is probably having a blast in Heaven. Hugs to you all!

I'm here!

Sorry for the long absense in blogging. Things have been busy, busy and the days are just flying by! I really don't even have anything big to blog today, but thought I should at least check-in. The kids are doing great, school is great, I'm feeling much better...all is well!

I love this Fall weather...love getting out the new clothes, wearing sweaters and cozying up inside. Henry's frustrated with having to wear socks now (with his Crocs of course:)), but he's getting used to it. We're heading to Grandville tomorrow after school because I'm in desperate need of clothes. I've lost 10 pounds this pregnancy so far, so I'm not ready for maternity clothes, but I really have nothing to wear so I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I'd hate to buy regular clothes to wear for just a few weeks, but I'm not sure what else to do. I think I'll get a couple cheap shirts to wear for a bit, but also look for some maternity clothes. Abby and Hanks were Summer babies...Fall/Winter maternity clothes really aren't in my wardrobe. Ugh.

I have Friday night off this week...which is very strange for me! We are going to my cousin's wedding, so it will be nice to have a weekend night with Colin. Saturday and Sunday I have showers for my sister (she's 33 weeks now!), so it's a busy family weekend. But...that's a few days away and I don't want to get ahead of myself!

No new pictures to post...I'll work on that.

The kids have "late start" tomorrow morning...they start an hour late and the teachers come in an hour early so they have a nice two hour block of common planning time. The downside for me on an entirely selfish level is that I only have an hour of alone time, instead of two tomorrow morning. :)

Have a great week...I'll try to update again sooner than later!

Haircuts...Finally

Both kids and Colin had haircuts tonight. Henry really needs a haircut every couple of weeks, but I've been putting it off...forever. It was SO long and since he sweats all the time, it was getting pretty nasty. I asked Jordan to cut a lot off tonight. Here's a before and after pic...they are a little hard to tell, but it's much, much shorter (like a couple of inches)...love it!

Randomness

It's been awhile since I've had a post filled with lots of different, random stuff. This one will probably be one like that.

It's been a week already since we went to Crane's apple picking. We went on Monday, after the long weekend of rain. It was a perfect day to go, the temperature was perfect! The kids loved it and there were hundreds of honey crisp apples to pick from. We came home with lots of apples, a few donuts and a couple of slices of cherry pie. Yum! We love going every year as a family!

The kids are doing great in school. Abigail loves going. She's tired by Friday, but has been doing great. She got her glasses on Friday, so we'll see how she does wearing them this week. Henry also loves school. I am truly shocked at this. He's been enjoying each day and is so proud of everything he's learning. They both have awesome teachers and we have been so blessed so far this year!

We've been busy, but we're getting into a routine too. The kids don't have school on Monday or Thursday so we've been enjoying those days as "lounge around" days. We really haven't been doing much of anything on those days, which is nice, but also not real productive. We'll see if that changes as we get used to the weeks even more.

I went to the doctor last Tuesday for another appointment. I'm just over 14 weeks now. My doctor couldn't find a heartbeat on Tuesday so I had a quick ultrasound. The little one was moving all around with the heart beating like crazy. It was fun to see the baby at this stage. I am starting to feel a bit better, so I am extremely thankful for that! I'm really tired yet, but my stomach is feeling a little better.

My terrible news of the day...I lost my calendar. I have probably spent over two hours looking for it. It is nowhere. Nowhere. I can hardly handle it. I write everything on there. Everything. I've already missed a birthday (sorry, Kim!) by not having it. It seriously makes me freak out a little. A lot. I really don't know what to do! Ugh!

Time to enjoy a little time while the house is quiet...Henry's sleeping and Abigail's watching "Veggie Tales." Have a great day!
