Henry's appointment with Dr. Burdo-Hartman went well today. We spent about 1 1/2 hours with her going over Henry's health, physical and social history, observing Henry and discussing next steps. She concluded that Henry is hypotonic, meaning that his muscles are slower to "do what they need to do." That's the main reason that he has been on the later end of physical developmental milestones. She assured as that he has just about caught up and should not have any longterm problems with this. That was good news to us!
We then discussed his speech development for awhile. She has encouraged us/referred us to look into the Ottawa Area ISD for speech therapy. Henry will hopefully have some inhouse speech therapy through their Early On program or different program. She seemed to think it was appropriate that we are dealing with this early. So, that's where we are right now. We will contact the ISD and see what program(s) they think are appropriate for Henry and conitnue from there. We will see Dr. Hartman again in mid-April.
Colin and I are both glad we went today. I think that Colin's reservations about going were calmed and our concerns were acknowledged and dealt with. Thank you for your prayers, calls and emails of encouragements and just for thinking about us. Please continue praying as we go to the next step for Hanks (and will probably have to get rid of the pacifier!!) Thanks!
